Regional Distribution of Courses for the History Major

The Department of History offers courses in seven world regions.  History majors are required to take at least four courses (including a seminar course, i.e., listed as HIST 3000-4999) in one of the seven regions; if their main region is from Group A (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East), then majors also need at least three courses from the regions in Group B (Europe, Russia/Eastern Europe, U.S.); if their main region is from Group B, then they need at least three courses from the regions in group A.

Below is a listing of courses under each region.  When a course is listed under more than one region, it can usually be applied to the region on which students write a substantial paper. Students completing the Honors program will count Hist 4998 and Hist 4999 toward the region covered by their thesis.

If you have questions please contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Meredith McKittrick (7-6121; ICC 608; HistoryDUS@georgetown.edu).
