Regional Distribution of Courses for the History Major

The Department of History offers courses in seven world regions.  History majors are required to take at least four courses (including a seminar course, i.e., listed as HIST 300-499) in one of the seven regions; if their main region is from Group A (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East), then majors also need at least three courses from the regions in Group B (Europe, Russia/Eastern Europe, U.S.); if their main region is from Group B, then they need at least three courses from the regions in group A.

Below is a listing of courses under each region.  There are a number of courses that are interregional and can be applied to one of two or more regions.  When a course is listed under various regions, it can usually be applied to the region on which students write a substantial paper.

The list below, which is revised ahead of each semester, includes courses offered in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, plus a few courses that are offered on a regular rotation.  If you have questions please contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Amy Leonard (7-7831; ICC 612: amy.leonard@georgetown.edu).
