Georgetown History Underground Research Blog

Georgetown History Underground Research Blog

Increasingly scholars have taken to the blogosphere to share their ideas. As one of the History Department’s intellectual communities, History Underground Blog provides a forum for graduate students working on their own research blogs to blog about their reading, coursework, and research, and to extend their scholarly conversations outside of the classroom.

Connect to the community through the History Underground Research Blog

Why Blog?

There are a number of reasons to consider blogging. It’s intellectually engaging. It allows students to connect outside of classroom contexts, and across fields and cohorts. It offers a platform for creative, nontraditional writing. Maintaining a blog may allow you to develop your research in unexpected ways, inspire new ideas, and cultivate an audience for your work.

What Should I Blog About?

You may use your blog to:

• reflect on your coursework, comps preparation, and research;

• generate discussion about your work;

• review or comment on scholarship, news, and events related to your scholarly interests;

• test out ideas and research questions that arise as you develop your work;

• exchange ideas, perspectives, and sources of information with your colleagues;

• develop an online portfolio.

How Do I Request a Research Blog?

To request a blog please visit Georgetown Commons and fill in the blog request form; log in using your NET ID and password. Ignore the section “Course ID and section #”. Keep in mind that your link will be placed in the sidebarof the History Underground blog, but in establishing your security settings you may control who does and does not have access to see or to comment on your blog. If you have any questions about this, please contact mto25@georgetown.edu.

How Do I Find Time to Blog?

The blog, Travels and Travails in 18th-century England, has a great post on finding the time to blog as a Ph.D. student: How to find time to blog.
