Department of History

By designating your gift to the Department of History, you will be supporting the department’s educational mission by providing current use funds that will be used for the most pressing needs of the students and faculty in the Department of History as determined by the Chair of the department.

Richard Stites Memorial Lecture Series

The Richard Stites Memorial Lecture Series was founded as a living memorial to Richard Stites (1931-2010), a pioneer in the field of Russian History who taught at Georgetown from 1977 until his death. The current use fund supports an annual lecture series in the fields of history, Russian Studies, cultural history, and the history of popular culture.

Evan Armstrong North Graduate Research Award Fund

The Evan Armstrong North Graduate Research Award Fund was established by Dr. Diane Tarantino North, with significant gifts from Warner North and other generous donors. The Department of History would like to express its gratitude to everyone who has contributed in memory of Evan Armstrong North (MAGIC ’09), a promising doctoral student in the History Department, who passed away suddenly in April 2011 at the age of 28. The income from the promised endowment will support a merit-based research award for a graduate of the MAGIC program who has been admitted to the Georgetown History Ph.D. program.

Dorothy Brown Endowed Fund in History

The Dorothy Brown Endowed Fund in History was established in honor of Dr. Dorothy M. Brown, who retired as Provost and Professor of History at Georgetown University in 2002 after 36 years of teaching and administration.

Piepho History Research Awards Fund

The Piepho History Research Awards Fund, an endowed fund established in memory of the late Irma Piepho, M.A. ’71, provides financial assistance for graduate student pre-dissertation research, language study, and field work that requires travel.
